Have you read the alarming Front Page News of a Malaysian Local Newspaper on Wednesday September 8, 2010 ? The water source of Sungai Semenyih Water Treatment Plant in the state of Selangor, which channel daily water supply to more than 1.2 million consumers in over 300,000 households, has been seriously contaminated with dangerous 'overdose' of harmful high levels of Ammonia. The Water Treatment Plant was closed after the Ammonia level rose to 6.4 mg per litre of water !!! (The safe maximum level, set by the Malaysian Health Ministry, is only 1.5 mg per litre of water).

Ammonia side-effects among others: affect respiratory system, dangerous to health, ammonia is corrosive, getting it on your skin or eyes can cause burning, ammonia gives off a gas that can be toxic, can cause dry cough, vomiting, diarrhea and headache....

Officially it has been announced in accordance to the local newspaper, 4 large Districts in Selangor covering Petaling, Sepang, Putrajaya, Hulu Langat & Kuala Langat, were affected by this high level of Ammonia from water source contaminations.

Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) - The water authority in the state of Selangor has indicated their INABILITY to provide adequate treated water to the affected areas due to the large number of homes and any other premises affected. Datuk Ruslan Hassan, CEO of Syabas was reported in the local papers saying, "With the limited resources, we will be able to supply treated water ONLY to Critical Areas". He also HOPE the raw water contaminations caused by leachate from the Sungai Kembong Landfill - which is close to the river water source for the Sungai Semenyih Water Treatment Plant - is a temporary setback !!!!!!! Ironically, he was reported to also said it was the 2ND TIME the retention wall at the Landfill has failed !!!

Like I have said before in my earlier posting, WATER is one of the most important ingredients of our LIFE. Please DO NOT take it for granted. DOUBLE A(H1N1) FLU DEATHS

TODAY'S FRONT-PAGE NEWS: It is extremely sad to read on the front page of today's (Sunday April 4, 2010) Malaysian local newspaper report of the death of a 29-year old pregnant women, Surmani Mah Nor, who was in her 36th week of pregnancy with Influenza A(H1N1), died just two (2) days after her 54-year old mother, Maimunah Dimah, died of A(H1N1) complications.

Both of them were admitted last Tuesday (March 30, 2010). The 54-year old mother died on Wednesday (March 31,2010) whereas the daughter died on Friday (April 2, 2010).

This was the heart-wrenching fate of Mah Nor Mah Nasir, 65 who lost his wife and daughter within days to A(H1N1) illness. Both of them were fine when he left to visit his son in another state (Perak)on March 18, 2010. The only consolation to this tragic event is that his newborn grandchild, a baby girl, is fine & in stable condition.

So, please remember that PRECAUTION IS BETTER THAN CURE.

Meanwhile, according to the newspaper report, the Health Minister, Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai stressed that the two (2) cases were due to A(H1N1) complications and not direct A(H1N1) deaths. (However, it is still due to the initial Flu-Virus Attack on both victims that brought about their complications).

Nevertheless, the Health Minister said that the two (2) deaths showed how crucial it was for people with chronic diseases such as asthma, diabetes and lung illnesses to seek immediate treatment if they were suffering from symptoms of influenza-like illness such as high-fever (more than 38*C), coughing and headaches.

He also said that,"This is not a second outbreak of A(H1N1) but just a sign of increasing cases in influenza-like illnesses or A(H1N1)-related cases. He added that as of 5pm Friday (April 2, 2010), there are 351 patients with influenza-like illness being treated in hospitals nationwide. Of these, 28 cases were confirmed A(H1N1).
